Building Futures Through Sport: The Story of Kids Lacrosse Africa

Building Futures Through Sport: The Story of Kids Lacrosse Africa

When you think of lacrosse, you might picture a field, a team, and a game. But in Uganda, the sport has become something much more: a bridge to education, opportunity, and community.

Through its partnership with The Signature Foundation, Kids Lacrosse Africa (KLA) is showing what happens when sport becomes a catalyst for lasting change. What started with one field and one dream has grown into a nationwide movement empowering hundreds of young athletes.

In just the past year, more than 300 children have learned teamwork, discipline, and confidence through lacrosse. Over 20 full scholarships have helped students stay in school with meals, uniforms, and supplies covered. And with $50,000 invested in new facilities, the KLA headquarters in Jinja now includes classrooms, a central playing field, and housing for visiting coaches and volunteers.

Every number tells a story.
Every story represents a life changed.

One of those stories belongs to Coach Dan. He joined KLA as a child, fell in love with the game, and worked his way through school. Today, he’s back on the same field (this time as a coach and mentor) leading the next generation of players who remind him of himself. His journey embodies the heart of KLA’s mission: sport as a gateway to leadership and lifelong growth.

This year, The Signature Foundation and KLA are working toward a $60,000 goal to expand the program into Adjumani and Palisa, launch a Coaches Training and Leadership Academy, and provide even more scholarships, meals, and mentorship opportunities.

Because when a game gives a child a reason to believe, that’s not charity. That’s change.
